There are days when nothing goes our way, no more coffee in the house, phone screen cracks, and the world seems to be out to get us. Instead of taking a moment to sit with this, we decide to carry on with the day and point this energy at everyone like a gun.
Perhaps this is how you deal with every situation that interrupts the day or just certain ones. I like to call this pointing the gun because those on the receiving end of this energy are being shot countless times with negativity. Furthermore, loading their gun with these bullets to shoot at someone else. Thus, creating a never-ending cycle of negativity.
Stop While You’re Ahead
This cycle can be avoided by sitting with these emotions, breaking them down one by one, better known as taking the gun apart. No matter how much time it takes or how hard, dissecting this is essential. It provides you with a fundamental skill to live a better life.
Repurpose
Once finished, the built-up energy can be used in positive ways, for example, finishing work early, getting ahead on a new idea, exercising or an abundance of others. I call this taking the wheel, emotions are sidelined, and we are in full control.
Moreover, repurposing this newfound energy will open new doors in terms of personal, social and even business growth. I am living proof of this. When I first started working for myself, every speed bump was equal to days worth of setbacks. Until I took a few weeks off to get my mind in order and to ensure there would be no more setbacks.
During this time I came up with the theory of the gun alongside another colleague of mine. We remind ourself all the time that we have a choice, load it with negative or positive energy. This energy is going to be fired at others daily. It is always better to shoot positivity than negativity.
Another Way
That said, spreading positive energy encourages others around us to do the same. Instead of creating a vicious cycle of negativity that benefits no one.
This notion can be taken one step further, reshape negative energy into positive energy or progress. I know this raises a red flag for some, but follow along with me for a minute. Negativity stems from deep down, beyond surface experiences. Therefore, they have a lot of power and control over us.
However, when we can see this as progress on our journey, the energy becomes malleable. No longer is it holding us back, but instead a stepping stone forward. I am not saying this will happen overnight or be an instant change. Yet, absolutely everything is progress, as long as we push beyond the boundaries.
Embrace
One of these or even both will resonate with you. As this happens, I challenge you to embrace this, take apart the negativity. Remove it from the gun and reshape it into positive energy. This will not be easy, but I promise it is liberating, taking the wheel for the first time.
